Technology Monitoring

Many aspects of a company’s future are clearly defined; they are subject to the company’s internal control. Yet in a fast-moving, complex and confusing world, there are plenty of uncertainties, stemming for example from new (technological) trends and their potential effect on a company’s business model. We are faced with an ever-increasing flood of information that is difficult to deal with in the day-to-day running of a business.

What exactly does CTF do?

Based on the assumption that tomorrow’s technologies emerge from today’s research, we have continuously been monitoring technology for more than 40 years, so that we can spot future development trends early on. So in our INT Science Observatory, our scientists keep a permanent watch on their fields of knowledge, in order to identify, collect and evaluate current trends as they affect specific customer needs.

How do we evaluate the data?

Such comprehensive technology scanning and monitoring is only possible with the help of fast and complete access to all specialist information sources. This is why we have available a state-of-the-art high-quality range of electronic specialist information, with several hundred million data records, from ejournal to market studies and patents.

To be able to exploit these enormous data quantities profitably, we use the IT and data-based assistant KATI (Knowledge Analytics for Technology & Innovation), exclusively developed by us. It is conceived to make INT’s Science Observatory more efficient and to gain faster access to the information required. KATI helps us to answer questions like: “Who is doing cutting-edge research in a given field?”, “What are the current topics in a field?”, or “Where are the trends pointing?”
